Training on processing coconut shell waste into handicrafts for the community of Marga Sungsang Village, Banyuasin Regency

Abstract

Training on processing coconut shell waste into handicrafts for the people of Marga Sungsang Village, Banyuasin Regency, was carried out with the aim of providing new skills in utilizing abundant coconut waste around the village. This activity aims to optimize the potential of coconut shell waste which is often overlooked and transformed into craft products of economic value, such as decorative lamps, pencil cases, and other household accessories. This training was attended by around 40 participants consisting of various levels of society, including farmers and housewives. During the training, participants were given an understanding of the potential of coconut shells as environmentally friendly and valuable craft materials. Participants were also taught coconut shell processing techniques, from cutting, sanding, to product finishing. Through direct practice, participants can hone their skills in creating attractive craft products that are ready to be marketed. In addition, they were given insight into how to market products to expand the market for coconut shell crafts. The results of the training showed high enthusiasm from participants who actively participated and produced craft products that had market appeal. This activity is expected to improve the economy of the people of Marga Sungsang Village through the development of handicraft businesses based on local raw materials, as well as supporting environmental conservation by utilizing waste sustainably.
